Ballads of the Day, released in mid-1957, is Nat King Cole's twelfth studio album.

This album, arranged by Nelson Riddle, features a few re-recordings of songs that were associated with Cole such as "Route 66" and "Sweet Lorraine." After Midnight also introduced several new songs for Cole as well. The tracks featured in this album were quite favorable, making the album peak at 16 on the Billboard charts.

After Midnight was re-released multiple times in 1956 alone. Like most albums of the day, After Midnight was released in both a 33rpm LP format and a 45rpm disc format. The latter had four discs that rearranged the tracks into an entirely different order. Re-releases of this album, such as the one in 1987, were released under a different name, The Complete After Midnight Sessions or After Midnight, The Complete Session, due to the expanded track listing of five previously unreleased tracks. However, some re-releases of this album still do keep the name After Midnight.
